Involuntary childlessness may be owing to several causes...

As many as 20% of all couples will not obtain pregnancy within the first year. In connection with the initial examination performed by a GP or fertility clinic, the woman will be subjected to a series of examinations; and, also, an ordinary analysis of the man’s semen will be carried out. Unfortunately, such a semen analysis is insufficient, and therefore problems with the genetic material in the sperm cell will not be detected. Problems of this nature occur in half the men experiencing childlessness, and these men have either reduced fertility or no fertility at all.

In many couples, the infertility is referred to as ”unexplained”, since no cause can be found. In some couples, the problem is mistakenly attributed to the woman only - particularly in cases of a positive pregnancy test with a later bleeding or miscarriage. Maybe the woman has Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), and therefore the primary focus will be directed towards this. Subsequent treatment may be futile, if the fact that there are also problems with the genetic material in sperm cells is overlooked.

Such insufficient semen analysis will mean that you may not receive the right fertility treatment right from the beginning. This can result in prolonged treatment procedures involving much disappointment along the way.
