About the SCSA® analysis
The SCSA® analysis has been developed in USA by the company SCSA Diagnostics Inc. (www.scsadiagnostics.com). SCSA® is an abbreviation of ”Sperm Chromatin Structure Assay”.
Using flow cytometry, The SCSA® analysis is extremely reliable. The method facilitates the examination of several thousand sperm cells with a high level of accuracy. The outcome of the analysis will be a DFI value indicating how satisfactorily the genetic material has been packaged. The DFI value may vary from 0 to 100. The higher the DFI value, the poorer the packaging, and the more fragile the genetic material. The result of the analysis will guide you towards the most efficient fertility treatment. Further, the result may be used to look into the causes relating to the man. Causes, which might be treatable for purposes of improving the packaging of the genetic material in the sperm cells and, hence, the man’s fertility.
The SCSA® analysis is the only method for uncovering the packaging of the genetic material in sperm cells which has been thoroughly tested in clinical trials.
Researchers from the Centre for Reproductive Medicine, Malmö University Hospital, are behind ground-breaking research, published in the prestigious journal ”Human Reproduction” in January 2007. They definitely recommend that couples undergoing fertility treatment do not waste time on IUI treatment, where the DFI value of the semen is above 25. This research was the reason why, three months later, the hospital region in Southern Sweden made the SCSA® analysis a mandatory element in fertility examinations of childless couples!
